The Indonesian Tourism Minister has announced Bali will reopening for international tourism in October. After multiple plans have to reopen have been delayed, the central government says Bali will be ready to receive international tourists.

After finishing a meeting that took place at the Bali Tourism Polytechnic on Friday (24/9) that was attended by several government officials to evaluate the preparations from the Bali provincial government in reopening the border for international visitors, the Tourism and Creative Economic Minister, Sandiaga Uno announced that the central government has planned to reopen the international travel corridor in October.

The plan to reopen the border was initiated after receiving reports from Bali Vice Governor, Cok Ace about the recent Covid-19 transmissions in Bali that have significantly reduced and have been properly handled.

“After being informed that Bali is handling Covid-19 transmissions properly, Luhut immediately instructed us to prepare the reopening procedures by October 2021.” Sandiaga added.

Apart from that, the implementation of the PeduliLindungi tracing app has been properly integrated in most of the places on the island. Sandiaga also said that he is concerned and wants to help Bali residents overcome the current economic crisis due to this travel restriction policy, causing the majority of Bali’s population to lose their only source of income.

“This program was initiated to help the local community who have been relying on the tourism sector, to get back their jobs after being laid-off for over 1.5 years since the global pandemic struck.” Sandiaga concluded. Sandiaga also hopes that the culture and nature based tourism will be a new trend for Bali’s tourism sector in the future.

I'd love to get there back finally. Hope unvaccinated pople will be able to get there too. No matter the quarantine or not. Bali needs money. If I go through quarantine and come out with the negative test, it should do as well!

@Mat, Vaccinated travelers will be allowed in regardless of quarantine. There are a handful of countries which require travelers to be vaccinated now. How are you supposed to travel around it??

@Jaillabdeen, opening will be for sure after WHO announce the end of pandemic. Perhaps end of 2022.

Look no further than the complete failure of once wealthy Thailand’s “ Phuket Sandbox” adventure to forecast what will occur in Bali shortly after reopening. Thailand threw billions of baht at the ring fenced exasperated island to no avail. Thai officials said they’d quit if the Covid numbers exceeded 100 per month. Well they’re over 100 a day and increasing the death count in spite of all efforts to isolate the spread into totally vaccinated residents. So….what’s that quote on the definition of insanity? Right…” repeat your failure over and over again expecting a different result”. But what the hey? It’s only money….and lives. I have an idea…kick the billionaire beer and hotel barons off the planning committee.

@J West, to be honest though: Thailand is trying. They are actually allowing tourists to come into the country, even if it's only a few islands for now.

Indonesia did so such thing ever and only made things worse with introducing mandatory quarantine in Jakarta if you enter on a business visa.

Perhaps you consider the Thai attempt a failure - but it can be better to have failed than to have never even tried at all.

So, this is about the 30th time this has been promised by government? Let's wait for the 31st, or 40th, or something - i'll believe in when international flights start landing and no quarantine is required on arrival.

@Ben, perhaps because of about 30 hours and longer traveling time from Europe with at least two stops.
