Bali brokers have begun to attempt to force by-passers to get rapid antigen tests as they receive commission from certain clinics near Gilimanuk Port in Jembrana.
The Secretary of the Jembrana Covid-19 Handling Task Force, I Putu Agus Artana Putra admitted that he has received many complaints from people who were afraid as they were stopped by multiple brokers on the streets that insisted they take a Covid-19 rapid antigen test at specific clinics in Jembrana recently. “Many people complained that they were disturbed by these brokers that usually wait for vehicles to pass along the street.” Artana said.
He also said that some people panicked and reported the incident to the nearby police station. “Some people thought that they were going to get mugged when the brokers stopped them at night, not knowing that they’re offering rapid antigen tests at the clinic.” Artana added. Some of them even insisted and threatened people to follow them to the clinic in order to receive their commissions.
Despite receiving many reports, Artana admitted that he was unable to do anything as the Covid-19 Handling Task Force is not authorized to take action towards these brokers and will communicate this issue with the police department. “We will cooperate with police officers to stop these people from disrupting the traffic and violating public order as this might lead to an accident.” Artana concluded.
