Bali Airport Closed For One Hour Due To Issues On The Runway

Bali Ngurah Rai Airport authorities temporarily closed the runway due to an incident that caused a tire on one of the airplanes to burst just after arrival on Friday evening (12/11).

The Stakeholder Relations Manager of Angkasa Pura Ltd. For Ngurah Rai International Airport, Taufan Yudhistira confirmed that he decided to close the airport’s runway after receiving a report regarding an incident that caused a tire burst on an airplane that was carrying a total of 5 people. 1 pilot, 1 co-pilot, 2 technicians, and 1 medical worker on board. 

“A tire burst occurred to a Cessna 208 airplane that belongs to a company named Marta Buana Abadi Ltd on Friday evening around 5:34 pm,” Yudhistira said on Friday (12/11). He explained that the incident happened when the chartered medical flight with registration was landing at the Bali Airport and headed to the taxiway after departing from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.

“The runway was closed from 5:34 to 6:43 pm, and 4 flight schedules were interrupted during the event. But thankfully, the incident occurred when the airplane had already landed, otherwise the situation would’ve been a lot worse.” Yudhistira added. Despite the incident, he admitted that the runway was not seriously damaged so the airport authorities decided to continue their operations after conducting an inspection and evacuating the airplane from the runway.
