A video showing a large amount of medical waste dumped in a Bali Strait has gone viral on social media.
The Head of the Bali Police Department, Irjen Pol Putu Jayan Danu Putra, confirmed that he had deployed a special team to investigate the incident in cooperation with officers from the Banyuwangi police department in East Java.
Many rapid antigen tests were dumped on the coastal area of Bali Strait, as shown in the video that recently went viral on social media.
“We received a report regarding this incident just yesterday, so the investigation is still underway. We will give an update if we find anything. We suspect that the waste was deliberately dumped there,” Irjen Pol Danu Putra said on Wednesday (2/2).
He explained that medical waste should be treated differently to prevent potential virus transmission.
To track the offenders, which might involve medical facilities in Bali, the officers decided to cooperate with Bali Health Agency.
“We’ll try to find hospitals or clinics that engage in this illegal activity by cooperating with the Health Agency. Once we find them, our Criminal Investigation Bureau will conduct legal steps in accordance with the current regulation,” Irjen Pol Danu Putra concluded.
