An Australian national named Sim has become locally famous after regularly handing out free packages of rice in Bali since Covid-19 struck in 2020.
The Head of the Kuta Police Department, Kompol I Nyoman Gatra appreciates the acts of kindness that Sim has been doing by feeding so many people who live in the Kuta area who have been affected by the Covid pandemic. “I really appreciate what he has been doing for the people in the Kuta area. It’s a good example for us to always help each other out especially during these hard times when many people in Bali have lost their income due to the pandemic.” Kompol Gatra said on Saturday (14/8).
As one of the restaurant owners of “The Naughty” that is located in Kuta area, Sim admitted that the majority of tourism businesses in Bali including his restaurant have been affected by Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in them losing their source of income to provide for their family. As a form of support to the local community in his area, Sim initiated to regularly hand out hundreds of free rice packages to the people who might need it. “With strict prevention protocols, I’ve been handing out thousands of rice packages for the people since the Covid-19 pandemic began in Bali. ” Sim said.
Despite the current economic challenges for his business, Sim decided to stay in Bali and help the community. Sim typically hands out the free meals in the afternoon every single day, and he has been cooperating with the local authorities to help him supervise prevention protocols while doing so. “I’ve been cooperating with the police to keep us compliant with prevention protocols.” Sim added.
