A Man In Bali Has Died While Cleaning A Sewer

A 61-year-old man has died after getting crushed by a collapsed tree while cleaning a sewer in Rendang, Karangasem.

The Head of the Rendang Police Department, Kompol I Made Sudartawan confirmed that the incident occurred on Monday morning (7/6) around 8:00am “The incident occurred when the man who has been living in Banjar Dinas Bujaga, Rendang was cleaning Yeh Jinah sewer in Nongan Village, Rendang on Monday morning.” Kompol Sudartawan said on Tuesday (8/6).

Prior to the incident, the victim and his friend from Banjar Dinas Becingah cleaned up the sewer on Monday morning. Shortly after, the man who has been working as a daily laborer for Karangasem Public Work Agency decided to collect some branches of Dadap trees that were covering the sewer system. But unfortunately the tree collapsed when he attempted to pull a dead branch from one of the trees at the location.

“The man attempted to pull a branch from a four meter tall Dadap tree on the river side, but apparently he didn’t realize that the tree was rotten from old age.” Kompol Sudartawan added. Shortly after, the tree what was 50cm in diameter, collapsed right onto his body causing him to drown in the river “His friends managed to evacuate him around 10 minutes later, and rushed him to Rendang clinic, but the doctor confirmed that he had passed away before reaching the clinic.” Sudartawan concluded.
