Tabanan COVID-19 Task Handling Force shut down a local grocery shop for failing to adhere to health and safety protocols. The shop did not contain a hand wash station, additionally, a dozen locals were in the store without wearing face masks.
The Head of Tabanan Public Civil Service, I Wayan Sarba said the inspection was conducted during an operation led by Tabanan Covid-19 Handling Task Force on Sunday (7/3).
The shop located in Dauh Peken Village Tabanan was found neglecting the government’s instruction to provide equipment such as a hand-washing station, which all businesses are required to have.
“We have to close their operation, and the owner of the shop needs to visit our office because they were unable to pay the fine of IDR 1 million (USD 70),” Wayan Sarba said.
During the operation, Sarba also penalized six bypassers each with USD 7 (IDR 100,000) fine for not wearing face masks in public areas. He also caught and educated another 10 people who didn’t wear their face masks properly by covering their noses.
He explained that officials must be decisive towards any violations in order to reduce virus transmission in the Tabanan area.
“Tabanan is still considered a red zone area due to a large number of Covid-19 transmission, and those people who ignore the prevention protocols were causing the cases to keep surging,” Sarba concluded.
Meanwhile the Coordinator of Public Information, Putu Dian Setiawan announced that Tabanan had 7 new Covid-19 cases, with 8 recoveries and 1 death on Sunday (7/3).
