Bali is preparing to reopen its schools after the Indonesian government gave the go ahead for each province to make their own decision.
Indonesian Education And Culture Minister, Nadiem Anwar Makarim has said that it is up to each province in the country to weigh the risks of reopening.
Bali is planning to reopen schools at the beginning of 2021 but no exact date has been set for the resumption of classes yet.
The spokesman of Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Prof. Wiku Adisasmito said that he has been cooperating with the Education and Culture Ministry regarding the plan. “We have been communicating this idea with Nadiem regarding the reopening of schools during the Covid-19 Pandemic” Prof. Wiku said during a virtual conference.
Prof. Wiku explained that before reopening the schools in each region, they will have to inspect the protocols they have in place to prevent Covid-19 transmission at schools.
“Preparation, timing, coordinating with Central Government and monitoring will be prioritized to keep the people safe” Prof. Wiku explained.
The Head of Denpasar Education, Youth and Sport Agency, Wayan Gunawan said that he will be discussing the plans with authorities in Bali.
In line with Gunawan, The Head of Bali Education Agency, Ketut Ngurah Boy Jayawibawa confirmed that Bali is ready to reopen schools.
“It doesn’t matter if the region is considered a red zone, it’s if the Regional Government in an area is ready, they will be still allowed to operate as long as they can follow all the prevention protocols. But again, this won’t be mandatory for all the regions. It will depend on their readiness” Jayawibawa concluded.
