21% Of People In Bali Don’t Believe They Can Be Infected With COVID-19

21% of people in Bali don’t believe they can be infected with COVID-19. 

The Covid-19 Handling Task Force faces huge challenges in doing their job because there are still many people on the island of Bali who don’t believe that they could actually be infected with the virus.

Head of Behavior Education for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Sonny Harry Harmadi said that according to their data, 20,78% of people in Bali believe that they’re immune to Covid-19 and it’s impossible to get infected.

“Approximately one fifth (⅕) of people in Bali think that way” said Sonny in a virtual meeting with Governor Koster and Head of National Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Doni Monardo on Friday Oct 9th 2020.

Sonny has said that the percentage of the people that don’t understand the virus has decreased in the last few weeks.

Through government education and social media campaigns, the Bali government has been reaching more people to educate them on the truth about the virus.

Sonny said that there need to be clearer communication with teh people regarding red zones and exactly where they are located  to help reduce the risk of infection in those areas. 

“If we know about ourselves and we know about our enemies, we could fight and win eventually” Sonny added.

Sonny said communication is key and enforcing the health and safety protocols will help reduce the risk of transmission.

“Wear a mask, keep your hands sanitized, use physical distancing. That’s the key to end the pandemic sooner,” Sonny said.

According to new research by the task force, those who follow the health protocols reduce the risk of being infected to 15% when coming in contact with someone who has the virus.

Head of National Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Doni Monardo said that people need to keep a distance of at least 2 meters from each other. “If they could do all of these protocols especially the physical distancing, the chance to get infected will be only 5%,” Doni Monardo concluded.

According to official statistics, 9759 people have been infected with COVID-19 in Bali resulting in 313 deaths. 1129 are currently in care and another and 8317 have recovered.
