An organization in Bali is visiting poor areas in Legian to help feed people after a man starved to death.
Community Empowerment Institutions in partnership with Aku (I am) For Bali Movement and Scholars of Sustenance (SOS) have launched the ‘Hungry Stomach Operation’ in Legian, Badung Bali on Saturday Oct 3rd 2020 to give free meals to the people in need.

Head of Legian Community Empowerment Institutions, Wayan Puspanegara said that this operation is to share some hope to the people, and prevent malnutrition. “Why did we call it Hungry Stomach Operation? Because most people are too shy if we just give them free meals, that’s why we come to their places to inspect their living conditions and give them meals directly” Puspanegara said.

During the operation the organization brought baskets with hundreds of wrapped rice portions and green pea porridge.
They went to the small alleys where many people are living in slums.
On top of the meals, the hungry stomach operation is handing out free masks, hand sanitizer and vitamin C. They hope it will help prevent the less fortunate from contracting COVID-19.

After they finished handing out food in the poor areas, they continued their activity towards Legian beach to give away more free meals and masks.
According to Puspanegara the operation began after a man that use to work in the Legian area ran out of money, couldn’t return to his hometown and died of starvation.

“We are also helping the temporary residents of Bali that can’t go back to their hometown after losing their jobs due to Covid-19. They are also part of our responsibility” Puspanegara concluded.
