Bali’s Kedungu Offers More Than Just Surfing For Off Path Tourists

There is always a new destination to explore in Bali. This is why so many tourists return year after year to the island.

In fact, many Bali lovers return to the province multiple times a year, since this tiny tropical island offers an inexhaustible amount of opportunities for adventure.

Bali’s Kedungu Offers More Than Just Surfing To Off Path Tourists

Everyone has heard of Canggu; an increasing number of people have heard of Seseh. But how many have heard of Kedungu? This is essentially the next village area along the southern coast of Bali. For those who need an easy visualisation of the map, Kedungu is the area situated to the west of Tanah Lot Temple.

Tanah Lot Temple is one of the most important cultural landmarks in Bali and, as such, has become one of the most visited heritage attractions on the island.

Tanah Lot is one of Bali’s sea temples and, within the Balinese Hindu culture, fulfils a similar role to that of Uluwatu Temple, through both sacred sites have their own unique stature and mythology.

For tourists looking for a vacation destination that offers access to many of Bali’s top cultural sites, as well as quiet coastal hangouts, and reasonable proximity to established tourism resorts like Canggu, Kedungu is an obvious choice.

In decades gone by, Kedungu has retained its charms as a traditional coastal Balinese village, frequented by surfers and off-path backpackers. But as tourism development creeps further west along the southern coast, from Canggu to Seseh, Kedungu is starting to catch the attention of a broader set of tourist demographics.

Perhaps the most famous hangout spot in Kedungu is The Beach Love. This sunset spot is loved by locals, domestic tourists, and an increasing number of international visitors who are hearing about it and adding to their Bali bucket lists.

The coastal viewpoint is technically called Tanjung Kedungu; however, the site has become synonymous with the beach bar that serves up the best sundowners around. Tourists who want to secure a beanbag for sundowners at The Beach Love should arrive in good time.

This spot is such a vibe that folks arrive in the late afternoon, not only to get in position for the most spectacular sunset, but to meet new people, to simply hang out with like-minded Bali-lovers who want to make the most of their access to the great outdoors.

Experienced surfers have loved Kedungu for decades, and now the area is seeing a steady increase in the number of surf schools and surf lesson providers popping up along the coast. Although the break at Kedungu is considered more challenging than that over in Kuta and Legian, with the expert tutelage of local surf instructors, even rookies are up and riding the waves in no time.

As a beloved hangout spot for the international and local surf community, Kedungu is home to a wealth of specialty coffee shops, including Little Ripper Bali. Serving up hearty post-surf breakfasts and all-day brunch options, this gem of a cafe prioritized homemade and healthy dishes packed with flavour.

From coffee to Balinese arak cocktails, from irresistible local nasi parang to internationally inspired mains and cheeky fried snacks, this spot offers something for everyone at all hours.
