Bali Will Strive To Make Island A World Leading Fitness Tourism Destination

Bali’s top tourism resorts offer picture-perfect aesthetic vibes. From cafe culture to dreamy natural vistas, from surf shacks to yoga shalas, the visuals of Bali can be pretty impeccable.

Moving deeper into 2025 and beyond, the Indonesian Ministry for Tourism wants to make Bali a world-leading destination for aesthetics and fitness.

Speaking to the media the Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development at the Ministry of Tourism, Hariyatno, explained what a mission to create Bali as an aesthetics and fitness destination is really all about. He shared “One thing that must be done is through improving the competence of human resources and the quality standards of aesthetic-fitness service providers.”

He continued, “Aesthetic fitness will further enrich the diversification of wellness tourism products that we are developing, especially under the spa, ethno-spa, and beauty categories. Bali has great potential to be a premium tourism destination for aesthetics and fitness.”

Hariyanto expanded the Ministry’s definition of wellness tourism to include aesthetics and fitness, as well as access to jungles, the sea, healthy lifestyle activities, healthy cuisines, complementary and alternative medicines, arts and culture events, mental health services, healing modalities, and spirituality.

In thinking about aesthetics and fitness, we can think about pilates and yoga studios, ultra-health focuses cafes, restaurants, and juice shops, as well as aesthetic and wellness providers like nail shops, hair salons, beauty parlors, saunas and cold exposure facilities, and spas.

The wellness and beauty tourism market is worth a staggering USD 5.6 trillion. At present, Indonesia’s wellness tourism business turnover is around USD 14 billion, and Bali wants to see more growth. Bali has a long history of traditional health and wellness centered around Balinese Hindu philosophies. The philosophy is known as Bali Maha Usadhi.

Speaking to reporters earlier this month, the Co-Founder and Director of the Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo, Dr Diah Permana Tirtawati, spoke of the potential Bali holds for promoting its traditional health and wellness culture to a wider tourist audience. He shared “Bali Maha Usadhi is originally owned by the Balinese people, the way Balinese people have passed down from generation to generation to make themselves healthy towards the goal of eternal happiness.”

In the realm of aesthetics and fitness, there is another angle to consider. In terms of fitness, there are two routes one could follow, aesthetics or performance.

The pursuit of performance is usually committed to by athletics and those who wish to train to complete it in some way.

Aesthetics fitness, on the other hand, is the pursuit of physical activity for its associated benefits to the way the body looks and feels, with less focus on performance capacity.

Tourists planning trips to Bali will be inundated with opportunities to visit visually inspiring yoga and pilates studios, gyms, and wellness facilities. In the ever-popular Canggu alone, there are plenty of options to choose from.

ADDA Yoga is a much-loved yoga school on Jalan Kayu Manis. The studio features floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing for nothing but natural light to illuminate students’ practice, as well as offering unrivaled views over the rooftops and rice terraces of Canggu.

Pilates is having a real moment in Bali, and around the world. Reformer Pilates is soaring in popularity and tourists traveling to Bali can use their vacation time to give it a go.

Revive and Pilates Studio has two venues to choose from, the first in the heart of Canggu, and the second in Umalas.

The studios offer over 50 classes a week and offer a range of different kinds of classes including Sweatformer, Mat Pilates, and Powerformer.

Gym-In-Bali

For those seeking an intense and power-driven workout, Revive and Pilates sister gym Power + Revive can be found on Jalan Subak Canggu, and the gym offers studio-based group workouts every day of the week.

The facility offers members and guests access to full gym facilities, a sun deck, sauna, ice bath and jacuzzis too.
