The launch of the Denpasar-Balikpapan route by Indonesia’s national carrier Garuda Indonesia is set to be an opportunity to build connectivity to East Kalimantan.

This is part of our wider mission to support the development of the State Capital (IKN) and connect more domestic tourists to Bali.

The flight route will be available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with Garuda Indonesia. The General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, spoke with reporters.

He explained “With a flight schedule three times a week, namely every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we hope that this service can meet the needs of prospective passengers while strengthening connectivity between regions,”

Shahab continued, “Garuda Indonesia is here to complete the available options to go to Balikpapan, which has previously been served by Citilink Indonesia, Air Asia, and Lion Air.”

He added, “We congratulate Garuda Indonesia. Hopefully, the opening of this route will further strengthen domestic connectivity from Bali Island.”

Shahab explained and suggested that more flight announcements could be made in the pipeline.

He concluded, “As an airport operator, we are ready to support airline operations in expanding flight networks.”

“With a total of 62 airlines operating until October 2024, we are optimistic that we can achieve the target of 23.6 million passengers by the end of the year.”

Speaking separately, the Vice President of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk East Domestic Region Group Head, I Made Sudarma Astika, told reporters, “The launch of a direct flight route from Denpasar to Balikpapan and vice versa is a representation of our commitment as a national airline that is always present to meet the needs of air connectivity, especially for people in East Kalimantan and its surroundings to one of the favorite destinations in Indonesia.”

He added, “Garuda Indonesia certainly hopes that the presence of two new routes that are directly connected to Balikpapan can optimize efforts to strengthen regional infrastructure that can realize national interconnectivity for equal distribution and the progress of the Indonesian economy.”

While Nusatara is a new city under development, Balikpapan is a culturally rich city with plenty of opportunities to explore all of the wonders of the wilder side of Indonesian Borneo. From the city’s Inpres Kebun Sayur Market to the Mangrove Center at Graha Indah, there is so much to explore in this vibrant city.

For tourists traveling to Indonesia who want to experience a big city during their trip but don’t fancy a journey to Jakarta, Balikpapan is about as authentic a travel destination as you can find. This is the opportunity to experience Indonesia like a local.

For nature lovers, Indonesia’s national tourism board, Wonderful Indonesia, rightly recommends a day trip to the Wain River Protected Forest.

The first is home to an incredible array of highly endangered species, including sun bears, orangutans, and proboscis monkeys.

The three most popular beaches here are Kamala Beach, Manggar Beach, and Segara Sari Beach; however, remember that many of the provinces outside of Bali are far more conservative, and modest dress is expected of tourists even on the beach.

In Bali, more domestic flights are added to the schedule at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport; domestic airfares could be about to become way cheaper, a big win for both domestic and international travelers.

As announced earlier this month by the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir, a new partnership with the Ministry of Tourism will see domestic airfares decrease in cost in the coming months.

After a meeting with the new Minister for Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, Minister Thorir explained to the media, “We will form a team together to provide solutions.”

“If we used to talk about the Task Force, or my version is PMO, it is the same as the purpose of harmonizing all policies to become a single decision that can provide the intended solution regarding the ticket price.”
