New Bali Shopping Center Will Be Ready To Serve Tourists In 2026

A new international shopping center will open its doors in 2026.

The Grand Outlet Bali will be part of the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone on Serangan Island, which sits just off the coast of Denpasar. 

PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID), which manages the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone, has just signed a collaboration agreement with Mitsubishi Estate to build a huge international-scale shopping center at Kura Kura Bali. 

The Grand Outlet Bali will be designed to be a leading retail shopping destination delivered to international standards.

The mall will become home to luxury brands from major international fashion brands. The shopping center is set to compete with the likes of Bali Discovery Mall, Galeria Mall, and Beachwalk Kuta.

It is not just retail therapy that will be on offer at the Grand Outlet Bali but family entertainment too. The team behind the project has confirmed that the mall will be built over 4.7 hectares of land and is under construction thanks to a hefty investment of around USD 100 million.

Zakki Hakim, the Head of Community Relations for PT Bali Turtle Island Development told a press conference that the project is inspired by the concept of ‘Desa Bhinneka,’ which means ‘Village for Diverse Communities.”

The Grand Outlet Bali will feature a variety of recreational areas with beautiful views and beachfront promenades that will become a huge draw for domestic and international visitors, fashion enthusiasts, foodies, and families.

The team has yet to announce which brands have signed up to open stores in the mall.

Hakkim revealed, “Why did the government agree to this, the hope is to reduce the flow of foreign exchange from Indonesian people who shop abroad.”

The development of the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone is also hoped to bring more economic growth to the traditional fishing communities of Serangan Island.

Hakkim confirmed that over 50% of the workforce eventually employed at the Grand Outlet Bali will come from Attack Village, Serangan Island.

The principle of the special economic zone in Bali is to establish vast public infrastructure, services, and resources in an area that has either become run down or is seen to have huge economic potential.

For example, the development of the Bali International Hospital is the keystone infrastructure of the new Sanur Economic Zone.

Businesses that will open in the area, alongside existing tourism businesses, will be linked to the health and tourism sector. 

The Kura Kura Special Economic Zone is expected to attract 1.2 million tourists every year with a potential income of USD 31.8 billion.

As a new tourism destination, Kura Kura Bali is anticipated to create 35,000 new jobs.

Hakkim said that the community will be supported in creating micro, small, and medium enterprises through the development of the Kura Kura Special Economic Zone in Attack Village.

Hakkim said “There are definitely those who want to fish in Attack Village, there are definitely those who want to have a homestay in Attack Village, there are definitely those who want to go to the temple in Attack Village. The question is, is Attack Village ready?”

He continued “If Penglipuran Village Tourism Village Program took 30 years to build, we are trying, maybe it can be faster than 30 years in Serangan Village, thankfully if it can be done in 10 years.”

Hakkim calmed fears that the development of the huge new business, retail, and tourism facilities would be the ruin of the sleepy traditional fishing island.

He revealed that a number of community support programs have been established as a form of contribution from Kura Kura Bali to the surrounding villages, especially Attack Village and Serangan Traditional Village.

The residents of Serangan Village, he said, will still have access to pray at all temples in the Kura Kura Bali area.
