The festive season is just around the corner. The Christmas and New Year holidays in Bali are one of the busiest times of the year.

Last year, the island saw over one million arrivals over the week that sits between Christmas and New Year, and it looks like 2023 is going to be bigger than ever. 

Top accommodation providers in Bali have already made it known that they are on track to sell out over the festive season.

The Bali Villa Association has been talking to the media about how their partners are preparing for the fast-approaching holidays. 

The Bali Villa Association is a collective that focuses on promoting private vacation rental villas in Bali. Of which there are hundreds.

Private villas are one of the most popular accommodation options in Bali, aside from resorts and hotels.

Villas offer tourists the chance to feel at home on the island, especially for those traveling as families or as groups of friends; villa accommodation just offers a bit more freedom.

The Chairman of the Bali Villa Association (BVA) Putu Gede Hendrawan, told reporters that private rental villa occupancy rates across the island are currently sitting at 80-85%.

This time of year, mid-September until mid-November is considered the second low season in Bali. With occupancy rates already sitting above 80%, we can expect to see the island’s top accommodation options selling out in the next few weeks. 

Hendrawan explained that its international tourists, rather than domestic visitors, tend to book private villa accommodation in Bali.

He confirmed that he has ordered partners to conduct the necessary maintenance work, renovations, and procurements to ensure that this Nataru will be smooth running for both visits and accommodation providers.

Nataru is the Indonesian word for the Christmas and New Year holidays. Although Bali is a majority Hindu island, the Christmas holiday is still a cause for celebration.

New Year is also a huge party in Bali for tourists and local residents alike. Although the traditional Balinese New Year is celebrated during the Nyepi festival in March, the international New Year is a holiday that is only growing in popularity. 

With private villa rentals looking like they will be in super high demand over December and early January, tourists planning their trips to Bali are advised to book in advance.

Bali is typically a destination that can be explored with a relaxed and organized at the last minute kind of itinerary, but over Christmas and New Year, booking is highly recommended.

December is a really good time of year to visit Bali. There is always so much happening, especially at the island’s leading beach clubs.
