Family Plea For Support For 7-Week Old Daughter In Bali ICU

An Australian family in Bali has shared news of their dangerously ill seven-week-old daughter. The family has taken to social media to call on community support for their baby, Lucky Love. Doctors have told Lucky Love’s mother, Honey Ahmisa, and her fiancé Pan, that she has a bacterial infection that is putting huge pressure on her lungs. The family is in a hospital in Bali and has launched a fundraising campaign to cover the costs of the rising medical bills.

Friends of the family have shared that Lucky was taken to the hospital early on Wednesday morning as she began struggling to breathe. Doctors have told her parents that they should be prepared for the chance that their baby won’t make it, noting that she has a 50% chance of survival in the best-case scenario.

According to her loved ones, the hospital where Lucky Love and her family are now residing does not have sufficient resources to deal with this complex case, nor does the facility have access to the necessary medical specialists. Lucky has been placed on a ventilator to help her breathe. The family and friends have taken to social media to try and locate medical specialists who may be able to consult with the hospital and raise funds for a medical evacuation flight to either Singapore or Perth.

According to the GoFundMe page set up by friends of the family, an air ambulance flight to Singapore will cost $90,000, with the only other alternative, a medic flight to Perth, costing $65,000. The fundraising page has been online for a little over 24 hours and has gathered over 650 donations. The fundraising target is set at the full $90,000, with over $28,000 raised so far.

The fundraising page was created by Natalie Saper, who wrote an update about Lucky’s condition, “She has a severe bacterial infection that has taken a serious toll on her lungs, she is unable to breathe and is on a ventilator which is now breathing for her. They are unsure whether or not antibiotics can work as she’s in such an unstable critical condition.”

Saper continues, “It is unsure how long she will need to stay in the hospital, minimum 2 weeks with the possibility of needing to stay longer. Hospital fees are currently $8000 per day in Bali.” Many of the donors have left heartfelt messages on the fundraising page, including Paul White, Lucky’s grandfather.

He wrote, “we are sorry that our little granddaughter is so sick at this young age. Grandma and Grampa wish we could take you all in our arms, make everything better. Lots of prayer going up for Lucky xxoo”

At around midday on 9th February friend of the family, Bailey Scarlett, posted an update on her Instagram account. She posted a photo of herself looking over Lucky Love in the hospital bed attached to life support machines. She wrote, “I’ve got you, beautiful girl, and your beautiful mummy, daddy, and brother. Thank you everyone for your lovely messages, support, and suggestions, nothing has got unseen and appreciated. She is fighting and we are all here alongside her”.

Bailey Scarlett had previously posted a call for support on the Australian Bali travel Facebook group Bali Bogans. Comments on the post have now been limited, but page admins have confirmed that they have spoken directly with the family and ensured the legitimacy of the fundraiser.

Some members of the online community have become suspicious of medical fundraisers after a GoFundMe was launched in late January to support an Australian tourist who was taken to the hospital with severe injuries after a suspected violent attack. It was later revealed that he had actually experienced a motorcycle crash as a result of drunk driving, and friends had set up a fundraiser to cover the cost of medical bills.
