A 41-year-old man named Hermanto from Pengambengan Village, Jembrana has gone missing after falling over from his boat in the western Bali coastal area.
The Coordinator of Jembrana Search and Rescue (SAR), Dewa Putu Hendri Gunawan, confirmed that a rescue operation was started after receiving a report regarding the incident that caused Hermanto to go missing. He was traveling by boat to Java with his family on Thursday morning (28/4).
The victim’s family decided to report the incident to authorities after failing in their attempts to search for him.
Hermanto departed from Pengambengan Beach on his boat along with his wife, 2 children, and 1 nephew to celebrate the Eid Al-Fitr holiday on Thursday morning. After traveling 2 miles from the shore, one of the boat’s engines went down.
When he attempted to turn on the other engine, Hermanto slipped from the boat and bumped his head on the boat’s propeller before falling into the sea.
His nephew, who took over the boat, attempted to search for his uncle with the help of fishermen around the location. They returned to Pengambengan Beach at 10:00 am, where Hermanto’s family asked for help from the local residents and authorities.
“We deployed our team from 1:35 pm to 4:40 pm but we haven’t found him yet. We will conduct the same operation tomorrow morning and are asking the fisherman community in the area to help us find this man,” Hendri concluded.
