A 49-year-old man with the initials IMR has been arrested for stealing a car’s steering wheel from an office parking area in Denpasar.
The Head of Public Relations Office for Denpasar Police Department, Iptu I Ketut Sukadi, confirmed that the suspect was detained after stealing the steering wheel of a parked car in Jalan Bung Tomo Number 331, North Denpasar.
The incident occurred when the victim named Dewa Ayu Mas Widiantari (aged 46) parked her car around her office area and left it unlocked on Thursday morning (14/4).
A few hours later, the victim was surprised to see that her steering wheel was already gone. She immediately filed a report to the North Denpasar Police Department.
After collecting information from a witness and the CCTV cameras around the scene, the police managed to identify the suspect and begin an investigation. They arrested the suspect a few days later as they found him hiding in his parent’s house on Monday (25/4).
“The suspect admitted that he has sold the steering wheel for USD $231 (IDR 3.3 million) to a man from Cirebon, West Java,” Iptu Sukadi said.
The suspect also admitted to committing similar crimes in Payangan Gianyar and Jalan Tukad Balian Denpasar. “The suspect has been detained as we will continually pursue the case according to the legal process for him,” Iptu Sukadi concluded.
