A 33-year-old man named Supanta from Banten was mobbed and arrested for attempting to steal a motorbike in Seminyak.
The Head of the Kuta Police Department, Kompol Orpa SM Takalapeta, confirmed that the suspect was arrested after getting mobbed by villagers for attempting to steal a motorbike in Jalan Kunti, Seminyak on Sunday afternoon.
“Thankfully, one of our officers drove by that location just as villagers mobbed the suspect, so he was rescued then arrested,” Kompol Orpa said on Wednesday (30/3).
The incident occurred when the victim named Yahya Muhajimin Mustafa (aged 21) parked his motorbike in front of a minimarket in Jalan Kunti II on Sunday afternoon. After a few minutes, he noticed that his motorbike with registration number DK 6243 FBN was gone.
When the victim looked for his stolen motorbike, he and his partner spotted Supanta pushing it away. The suspect even attempted to turn on the vehicle by dismantling the front part of the motorbike several meters from the scene.
The victim and some passers-by who became angry began to assault the suspect. Luckily, an officer who coincidentally drove by the location spotted and rescued him from the angry mob.
“During the interrogation, the suspect stated that it was his first motorbike theft attempt, and he did it by himself. He’s still detained as the investigation is underway,” Kompol Orpa concluded.
