A 59-year-old Australian named Allan James has been detained for overstaying in Bali.
The Head of the Badung State Attorney Intelligence Service, I Made Gde Bamaxs Wira, confirmed that the suspect was detained for violating immigration policy by illegally staying for 8 years in Bali.
“The suspect has been temporarily detained at the Immigration’s detention house while waiting for his trial schedule,” Bamaxs said on Friday (18/3)
The suspect was proven guilty of staying on the island with a tourist visa for over 8 years.
“The suspect entered Bali in 2014 with his tourist visa and he hasn’t been doing anything for work during his stay,” Bamaxs added.
However, Bamaxs hasn’t published further details concerning this case as he’s still waiting for the trial.
“Basically, the suspect was detained for being unable to show us his stay permit. We seized his passport as an evidence and he will potentially face a 3-month imprisonment,” Bamaxs concluded.

Madness of bureaucracy. To everybody should be allowed to stay as long she or he wants.

If the truth was exposed you’ll probably find hundreds of crusty expats and international burn-outs hiding out down the alleyways and up jungle trails. Expats are not restricted to pool-villas in Canggu. “ Not working”, likely more nonsense. There are people producing “hippie crap” and selling their artistic efforts on consignment in local shops. There’s also loads of on line businesses selling crafts of non traditional design, obviously not Balinese. This Aussie is the tip of the iceberg.

why should it be waiting for 8 years? goverment needs to establish a digital system that can detect the length of stay every visitor on the island. this needs tech involvement. in the mind of man tends to violate whatever thing they can do.

So he stayed 8 years just spending his savings on Bali?
Don't complain, consider how much money he contributed to the economy without bothering anyone :)
