An Upset Man Suffering From A Mental Disorder Has Been Detained For Assault In Bali

Police officers have detained a man identified as Muhamad Afandi for attempting assault and damaging a car in Denpasar.

The Head of Denpasar Public Relations, Police Officer Iptu I Ketut Sukadi, confirmed that the man, who allegedly has a mental disorder, was detained for attempting assault on Sunday afternoon (16/1).

The man attempted to assault one of his relatives named Ahmad Saenudin with a machete and damaged his car with a rock.

According to the witness, the incident occurred when he came to the man’s place in Jalan Tangkuban Perahu, West Denpasar on Sunday at 3:00 pm. He asked the man to go back to his hometown in Malang, East Java to get treated for his mental illness.

“The man became mad and chased the witness with a machete before damaging his car with a rock,” Iptu Sukadi said on Monday (17/1). The nearby residents who saw the incident immediately reported it to the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man resisted by threatening them with his machete. As a precautionary measure, authorities decided to close down the road as they pushed the man to get into his house with tear gas and water cannons. The officers then crawled into an opening in the ceiling to access the building and continue talking to the suspect.

They finally detained the man after shooting him with rubber bullets and seizing his machete. “Once we managed to detain him, we rushed him to Sanglah Hospital to begin his medication under our surveillance,” Iptu Sukadi concluded.
