Danone-AQUA Opens Facility To Help Solve Waste Management Issue In Bali

Danone-AQUA has officially established an Integrated Waste Disposal Facility (TPST) to solve Bali’s waste management problem.

The Director of Sustainable Development Danone Indonesia, Karyanto Wibowo, stated that the TPST operation, which was just inaugurated a few months ago, is very important to reduce the waste that ends up in Final Disposal Sites (TPA) Suwung. These disposal sites have exceeded their capacity, receiving 4,200 tons of waste each day or 1.5 million tons every year.

“Danone-AQUA has become a pioneer in the management and recycling of plastic waste. It is committed to assisting the Indonesian government in reducing the amount of plastic waste in the oceans by 70% by 2025. We hope that this TPST waste management facility in Jimbaran will help the Balo provincial government solve its waste management problems, especially as the Suwung landfill has exceeded its capacity,” Wibowo said during the media tour on Monday (6/12).

The Samtaku TPST is currently accepting waste from seven areas in South Bali, such as Kutuh Village, Jimbaran Village, Ungasan Village, Bualu Village, Seminyak and Legian, in collaboration with PT. Reciki Mantab Jaya. These efforts are supported by the Bali provincial government, the Badung regional government, and the local community.

“In this facility, household waste will be separated. PET plastic will be sent to Veolia Factory in East Java and processed into recycled PET (rPET), which Danone-AQUA will then use to make bottles.

Meanwhile, the organic waste will be processed into compost, and residue waste will be processed using Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology to produce fuel. This makes Samtaku TPST Jimbaran an inclusive waste management that adopts the principle of Circular Economy and Zero Waste Landfill,” the Director of PT Reciki Mantab Jaya, Bhima Aries Diyanto, said.

To socialize the circular economy vision initiated by Danone-AQUA to reuse, reduce, and recycle waste, Danone-AQUA has collaborated with Yayasan Pembangunan Citra Insan Indonesia (YPCII) in carrying out educational activities. This is with the hope that doing so would change the waste management behavior of 10,000 families around the South Kuta district.

Danone-AQUA is currently focused on Education, Collection, and Innovation to ensure its circular economy vision is fully implemented for the improvement of Bali, its community, and the environment.
