Two karaoke businesses that are located in Denpasar have been fined by authorities for violating emergency partial lockdown policies.
The Head of the Denpasar Civil Service Officer, Dewa Sayoga confirmed that the two karaoke businesses Platinum Karaoke and EC Executive were fined with USD 70 (IDR 1 million) fines for operating their businesses during the emergency partial lockdown in Bali. “Both of them have already been fined for neglecting the government’s instruction to halt all business operations as they’re not considered an essential business.” Sayoga said Monday (9/8).
Apart from the USD 70 fines, the authorities also decided to temporarily shut them down until the partial lockdown ends. However, the community thinks that the punishments that were given to the businesses were too soft. Other than that, both of the managers from Platinum and EC were also required to sign documents which state that they won’t reopen their businesses until the emergency partial lockdown is over.
Prior to the inspection by authorities, multiple videos went viral on social media, showing that both of these karaoke businesses stayed open during the partial lockdown without implementing prevention protocols. During the interrogation, the management of the karaoke bars admitted that they felt they had no choice but to provide their services to some of their most loyal customers. So they decided to secretly operate their businesses by turning off their front lights to make them appear closed. Sayoga warned them to keep complying with the government’s instructions to avoid harsher punishments from authorities. “If they keep neglecting our policy, we will permanently close their businesses.” Sayoga concluded.

$70 is a slap on the wrist to these criminal scofflaws given the consequence of Covid transmission….death of many. If foreign owned, deport. Locals should be jailed for a year and fined one billion.
