Re-offender Arrested After Stealing Jewelry In Bali

A 32-year-old man named I Gede Mindra has been arrested by police after stealing jewelry from his neighbor in Klungkung and spending the cash on gambling.

The Head of the Klungkung Police Department, AKBP I Made Dhanuardana confirmed that Mindra was arrested along with his partner, I Wayan Agus Saputra (aged 26) from Nusa Penida, Klungkung after stealing jewelry from one of their neighbors. “Both suspects were arrested after breaking into a house that is located on Jalan Srikandi IV, Semarapura Klungkung and stealing jewelry.” AKBP Dhanuardana said during a press conference on Thursday (15/7).

Dhanuarta explained that the investigation regarding this case began when the victim, Cokorda Gede Agung Sandiadnyana Putra (aged 38) filed a report about the incident on Sunday (27/6) that caused him to lose some jewelry weighing 49.7 grams and estimatedly worth around USD 2,100 (IDR 30 million) when he left his house for a religious ceremony in his hometown for several days. “According to our investigation, the information led us to a re-offender named Mindra who has been renting a house near the victim’s house.” AKBP Dhanuardana added. Mindra was finally arrested on Jalan Ida Bagus Mantra, Klotok on Tuesday afternoon (13/7) around 3:00pm, while his partner, Saputra was also arrested shortly after. 

During the interrogation, the suspects admitted that they had sold most of the stolen jewelry in order to earn some cash and spend it on gambling. Dhanuardana also said that Mindra had previously served time in prison for a similar case, but he was released from prison in 2019 through an assimilation program from the central government. Both suspects have been detained along with evidence such as two gold necklaces, USD 70 (IDR 1 million) cash and a car for further investigation. The suspects could potentially face 7 years in prison to be held responsible for what they have done.
