Bali Tourism Association has expressed their disappointment as the central government’s plan to reopen the border for international visitors is predicted to fail.
The Head of the Karangasem Hotel and Restaurants Association, I Wayan Kariasa said that the majority of accommodation businesses in Karangasem were disappointed with the plan from the central government to postpone the travel arrangement program in July 2021 due to the surge of Covid-19 cases in several areas in Indonesia such as Jakarta and Central Java.
The Tourism Minister, Sandiaga Uno has recently stated that the plan to reopen Bali’s border to international visitors is predicted to be postponed until the third quarter of 2021 when Covid-19 transmissions are properly handled. Apparently, this statement garnered many disappointments, especially by the tourism sector in Karangasem as they have already prepared their businesses with all the requirements to welcome back international tourists. “We’re so disappointed with that statement, especially with all our efforts and money that has been spent during the preparation stage before welcoming the tourists back.” Kariasa said.
He also said that many of the businesses have lost their trust in the central government and urged them to continue the reopening plan. “I propose the regional and provincial government in Bali to urge the central government to keep the reopening plan on track, as most of Bali regions including Karangasem are now ready to receive tourists with all the prevention protocols in place.” Kariasa concluded. He also explained the importance of continuing the plan of both international travel arrangement and Work From Bali (WFB) program, so Bali’s economy can be revived from the Covid crisis as all of Bali regions were confirmed free from being considered a red zone area of Covid-19 transmission.

Writing from Germany. It would be good if the government could finally make up their minds. It's June 29 now. August will be our biggest vacation wave of the year, and I've been waiting for months for Bali's government to say yes or no to opening in July. I'm fully vaccinated and still don't know if Bali opens or not, even just for fully vaccinated tourists like myself. Tourists can't wait forever for their bookings. On July 1, I'll have to reschedule if there's no clear statement...

@dezza, Why would you think that? There is no guarantee that international tourists would show up anyway. Bali's folks believe that the Aussies (most tourists in the past) would somehow alleviate their misery. Bali is to the Aussies. Mexico is to the Americans.
Soeverign state? What a joke. Ask the Aussies they have made their minds long ago that Bali is actually another country. Sighs...
Better be safe than sorry...Look what happened in Portugal after letting in the Brits. The Delta variant cases have gone through the roof.

@dezza, Indonesia will never allow any island to become a separate nation. Bali could probably function as such, but once one island leaves the country, the rest will follow. Think of places like Maluku or Papua that wanted to be their onw nations for decades.

Reopening remain fiction. It’s Covid war, only the USA are losing because of Covid more citizens than in WWI & WWII together until now. - In another hand if opening will happen it’s more than questionable who would come if anyone.- Now there is Delta version that is dangerous for vaccinated persons too, also it can be expected that new mutations will follow. - It can also be expected that each year or two a new vaccination will be necessary.

@Wayan Bo, USA isn't losing the so called war on Covid. Everything is pretty much back to normal here. In NYC and Los Angeles maybe 5-10 people died from Covid in the last 7 days. Nobody is worried about Covid anymore in the states. Where you get the Delta variant is more dangerous to anybody and especially people that were vaccinated is ridiculous.

@Wayan Bo, That's my concern. The CDC etc have no idea just how long the current vaccines will work. I've read articles regarding the fact that we may need Boosters in the future. Prior to COVID I would travel internationally every other year, I was supposed to be in Bali last year. I will just wait until this virus is under control. There are so many selfish and entitled people in this world who do not believe that they should be "Forced" to wear masks and get vaccinated.
