ATM Machines and Toll Road Will Be Closed On Nyepi Day Of Silence

Officials from the Bank of Indonesia have announced that they will shut down ATM machines during the Day of Silence (Nyepi Day) celebration. The Head of Indonesian Bank for Bali Province, Trisno Nugroho said that he will shut down all the ATM machines across the island on Saturday (13/3) at 12:00am as a form of respect. The people on the island of Bali are predominantly Hindu and celebrate the annual tradition by meditating and staying home for 24 hours.

Additionally, he explained that despite closing down ATMs from operating, internet banking service will remain operating as usual. He confirmed that all banks in Bali will not be operating until Tuesday (16/3).

“All of the banks in Bali will open their offices for direct services again on Tuesday (16/3)” Nugroho added. Apart from the policy to shut down the ATM services, Bali Mandara Toll Road will also close operations during the celebration.

The President Director of Jasamarga Bali Ltd Toll Road, I Ketut Adipura Karang confrmed that the toll road services will not be operating for 32 hours. “We will start to close the toll road service from Saturday (13/3) at 11:00pm to Monday (15/3) at 7:00am as we usually do every year on the Day of Silence celebration” said Karang on Thursday (11/3).

Additionally, he also explained that before Covid-19 pandemic struck, Bali Mandara toll road used to have over 45,000 users each day. But the number was dropped to only 9,000 users per day since pandemic started last year.
