Australian national, David John Clarkson (45) has been arrested for attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into Bali. Officers from Ngurah Rai Customs and National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) made the arrest after discovering a postal package containing illegal drugs
The package was sent from Peru through an Indonesian shipping company and carried a kilogram of Dimethyltryptamine (DMT).
The head of Customs from Ngurah Rai Airport, Officer Himawan Indarjono confirmed that a package of DMT arrived at the airport through a shipping company called Pos Indonesia on Friday (22/1).
A customs officer found the package during the routine control delivery (CD) upon arrival. The National Narcotics Agency was immediately alerted about the incident.
Clarkson was arrested at his residence in Villa Sunshine Bali in North Kuta on Friday at 10:30 am.
As the investigation continues, the head of BNNP Bali Province, Putu Agus Arjaya said that the suspect is being detained for further interrogation.
Officers are trying to collect more information on the suspect’s involvement to drug syndicates in Bali.
“He has been arrested along with the evidence. Now we’re trying to find his network in operating this illegal activity in Bali,” Agus Arjaya concluded.
