The Indonesian Ministry of Labor has reinstated the policy allowing migrant workers to pursue jobs abroad.
According to the data from The Head of Bali Labor, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ida Bagus Ngurah Arda, 1,911 migrant workers from Bali have returned to their jobs since the central government implemented this policy.
“We have collected data of migrant workers in Bali very carefully and matched it with our system to avoid any misinformation before sending them back to work overseas.” said Ngurah Arda on Friday (29/1).
Additionally, he stated that the individuals are migrant workers who had been working overseas prior to the inception of COVID-19, which forced them to return to Indonesia in 2020.
The departure of each person depends on the schedule set by their employer. Also, each of them must have certain skillsets and company training prior to their departure.
Ngurah Arda added that all migrant workers were swab tested and showed negative results before starting their trip. “We had to ensure their health condition before they went back to work. Some employees had their testing fees covered by their companies, but some had to get tested at their own expense,” Arda added.
Previously, Bali received 15,457 migrant workers who were forced to return to Indonesia between March 2020 and January 2021 due to the pandemic.
“Thankfully the number of workers that were sent back to Indonesia has decreased over time, and I hope more people could go back to work again as soon as possible.” Ngurah Arda concluded.
