6 Tourists that were on a snorkeling excursion almost drown in Bali after their boat was overtaken by large waves.
The group of domestic tourists were overtaken by the large waves causing the boat to start sinking in the Padangbai coastal area of Bali.
According to information from officers, the incident happened when a group of six people were on their way to a snorkeling spot when weather turned bad on Saturday Oct 24th 2020.
Head of Karangasem Coastal Police Officer, AKP I Gusti Gede Suteja said that they planned to go from Pesinggahan Beach in Klungkung on Saturday afternoon at around 4:30pm (LT).
“They were friends from the same office, that afternoon they wanted to try their boat and looked for a snorkeling spot at the same time” Gusti Suteja said.
Everything went smooth when they left Pesinggahan Beach, but when they reached Padangbai the small boat couldn’t handle the large waves.
“The boat was sinking due to the water that kept coming in but fortunately the roof remained floating” Gusti Suteja added.
Thankfully, nearby fishermen who were in the area spotted the sinking vessel and immediately approached to help.
“They have finally been evacuated to a safe place in good condition. I really appreciate all the help from Coastal Officers, Padangbai Police Department and the local fishermen for saving their lives” Suteja concluded.
