A mother of two children (initials NKI) has passed away after being struck by lightning on Tuesday afternoon (2/2). The incident occurred in Pinggan Village, Kintamani Bangli at 5:30pm.
An official from Pinggan Village, I Nyoman Nyangleg, explained that according to the information gathered from nearby villagers, the 25-year-old woman went into her hut during heavy rain and freezing temperature, to light up the fireplace.
“It’s quite common for the villagers here to have their own fireplace due to the low temperature in this area,” Nyangleg said on Wednesday (3/2).
NKI was there along with 5 family members. Suddenly, lightning struck NKI and threw her body to the wall. While the others were in close range, they managed to survive the incident. She instantly lost consciousness and her husband called the hospital for medical assistance.
“The medical team stated that the victim had passed away at 7:00pm” Nyangleg added.
A similar incident occurred 10 years ago in Songan Village in Kintamani, where lightning struck a pedestrian, taking his life instantly.
Meanwhile, The Head of Kintamani Police Department, Kompol Made Sutarjana, confirmed the incident. “Based on the investigation from the medical team at Kintmani Clinic V, they found the cause of death to be lightning,” Sutarjana concluded.
