As Bali’s high season is fast approaching, savvy tourists are on the lookout for hidden beaches, secret stretches of shoreline, and crowd-free expanses of coast to enjoy all to themselves.
As beaches in Canggu, Seminyak, Legian, and Kuta will welcome large crowds of holidaymakers, heading down to the Bukit is a good idea for those seeking a little more space.

The Bukit, also known as the Bukit Peninsula, is Bali’s jewel, sitting at the southernmost tip of the island.
Bukit is best known for being home to destinations like Jimbaran, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua, and in 2025, it is seeing a huge boom in popularity.
Uluwatu, once a remote surfers’ hangout, is now a bustling tourism resort, and development is also picking up in Kutuh and Ungasan.

Yet, as the Bukit Peninsula becomes busier and tourists head to destinations like Padang-Padang Beach and Pandawa Beach in their thousands, there are still secret stretches of coastline to be discovered.
One very special beach indeed is just waiting to be discovered. Nyang Nyang Beach is probably one of the most quiet and calm beaches on the Bukit. Located just a stone’s throw from the heart of Uluwatu’s tourist hub, Nyang Nyang Beach is ideal for tourists seeking solitude, sunset, and pristine white sand.

One of the reasons Nyang Nyang is visited far less frequently than nearby Uluwatu Beach is that it is a bit of a mission to access the beach. The beach can only be accessed by walking down hundreds of steps, which is fine on the way down, especially when buoyed by the excitement of a day at the beach, but on the way back up, it is exhausting on the legs. Nevertheless, it is absolutely worth the effort…and the free workout!
Nyang Nyang Beach charges an entry fee of IDR 5,000 per person, payable in cash. Parking a motorcycle at the top of the cliff is also charged IDR 2,000 per vehicle.
@karinprmst I went to Nyang-Nyang beach Uluwatu, Bali 🇮🇩 in the last summer in the morning, the water is cool and high tide, not many people yet, but in the sunset time it was so much beautiful, low tide, you can find many little fish 🐠 shell 🐚 and perfect place to get tanned 🏝️ Don’t forget to bring water cause not many cafe or restaurant there 😉✨ #nyangnyangbeach #nyangnyangbeachbali #travelbali #traveluluwatu #balibeach #uluwatubeach #explorebali #exploreuluwatu #balitravelguide #balitips #hiddengembali #hiddenbeach #solotravel ♬ Messy – Lola Young
Nyang Nyang Beach is not to be confused with the equally incredible, infrequently visited and cliff-backed Nunggalan Beach. Nyang Nyang Beach is perfect for watching the sunset, secret afternoon picnics, and early morning yoga sessions.
Nunggalan Beach, which sits just meters along the cliffside, gained social media fame a couple of years ago for its graffiti-covered shipwreck. The beach is home to the bow of a ship, which has now been graffitied and painted over.
It’s essentially the only manmade structure on the beach, as like Nyang Nynag Beach, Nunggalan Beach has not been developed with warungs, cafes, surf shacks, or sun lounger rental stalls.

Much like Nyang Nynag Beach, Nunggalan Beach can only be accessed via steep stairs. The beachfront is a little more established with warungs and cafes, but is still incredibly quiet and laid back.
A word to the wise, while staying at both Nyang Nynag Beach and Nunggalan Beach for sunset is magical, and kind of unmissable, visitors must be mindful that staying for sunset means walking back up the stairs to the top of the cliff in the dark.

While some lights are on parts of each path, it is highly advisable to leave the beach before the last lights and to bring a torch more powerful than a phone torch to help safely navigate the way back up the cliffside.
The steps are uneven and broken in many places, so watching your step is vital.

Tourists exploring Nyang Nynag Beach and Nunggalan Beach are also advised to check the tide times before planning a visit. While it is considered safe to enter the water at both these beaches for paddling and gentle swimming, neither is lifeguarded nor has a flag system in place. Visitors enter the water at their own risk.
