World-renowned hotel group Mandarin Oriental is set to open a new resort on Bali’s Bukit Peninsula in 2027.

The revised plans show that the group is working on creating a resort and private residence that will be home to 110 rooms, suites, and villas.

The initial project was tabled a decade ago, and Mandarin Oriental Group has confirmed in a press statement that the resort will bring together the renowned interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes, accompanied by Bill Bensley’s world-renowned landscaping expertise, to create a contemporary resort that masterfully embraces its stunning vistas.

The whole project will be overseen by Design Lab, which will ensure that the Mandarin Oriental Bali artfully captures the essence of Balinese culture throughout the resort while making sure to focus attention on highlighting its unique craftsmanship, all while reflecting Mandarin Oriental’s meticulous attention to detail.

In the press statement, Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, shared, “We are delighted to extend Mandarin Oriental’s renowned levels of hospitality and exceptional experiences to the beautiful island of Bali.”

“With its stunning cliff-top location and thoughtful design, underpinned by our award-winning service, this resort and branded Residences will offer guests and homeowners an unparalleled blend of tranquility and elegance.”

The Mandarin Oriental Bali is also a collaboration with local real estate developer Harmoni Bali. Leo Koguan, Chairman of the company, stated, “We are proud to partner with Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group to elevate luxury hospitality in this extraordinary destination. Our vision is to create an award-winning resort experience that will become a sought-after destination.”

Details revealed by the International hotel brand confirm that the Mandarin Oriental Bali will comprise 110 generously appointed suites and villas, “each designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings; the property will offer private terraces or gardens, with most featuring private pools.”

The group has detailed that the resort will offer guests a “unique dining experience that will include a cliff-edge restaurant and bar, a specialty Chinese restaurant, a speakeasy bar, and a beach club, providing a culinary journey that highlights the best of Indonesian and international cuisine.

To top it off, guests will have access to “a sprawling cliff-front lawn [that] is poised to become the quintessential backdrop for weddings and events. With its panoramic views, this unparalleled venue promises to elevate every special occasion.”

However, it is not only Mandarin Oriental Bali, as a hotel and resort, that will be developed at the site on Bukit Peninsula, close to Pandawa Beach.

The group is also developing the new Mandarin Oriental Bali Residences, which will provide 68 private villas, ranging from 3 to 6 bedrooms, these properties will be developed on an 8-hectare site located above the hotel.

According to Mandarin Oriental Group, “Owners of these private homes will have access to a dedicated clubhouse, featuring lounge facilities, coworking area, function spaces, and family zones, as well as a private gym and swimming pool. Residents will also have access to the resort facilities.”

Communities in Bali, and political leaders have spoken openly in the last few months about the need for more island-wide spatial planning efforts to be undertaken and to establish whether the island province needs more hotels based on projected tourism trends and demands over the next decade and beyond.

Mandarin Oriental is not the only big international hotel group that has invested in Bali’s up-and-coming tourism destinations. It was confirmed in May 2024 that Anantara Group has partnered with Taryan Group to develop the Anantara Dragon Seseh Bali Resort.

The project initially saw kickback from the local community and Bali lovers around the province as the resort will be the first of its kind in the Seseh area.

Bali lovers have raised concerns that the presence of the resort will irreversibly change the atmosphere and environment in the traditional coastal community.

Following the public discourse about the development, Taryan Group issued a statement to confirm, “We will take into consideration the opinions and advice of Balinese architects, representatives of the authorities, and the local community for the final version of the project.”

Subsequently, a land blessing was held, and the first stone was laid.
