Students In Bali Arrested For Street Racing During The Emergency Partial Lockdown

  Authorities from the police department have arrested 8 students for illegal street racing during the emergency partial lockdown in Denpasar.

 The Head of the South Denpasar Police Department, AKP I Gede Sudyatmaja confirmed that 8 underage students were arrested early Wednesday morning (4/8) in the Kerta Petasikan area on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, Denpasar. “Eight students were detained for illegal street racing, and creating a crowd during the current emergency partial lockdown in Denpasar.” AKP Sudyatmaja on Thursday (5/8).

  Apart from arresting the suspects, the officers also seized their motorbikes from the scene for violating traffic laws and potentially putting others in danger. “We seized 7 motorbikes from the teenagers, 2 of which were illegally modified.” AKP Sudyatmaja added. He also said that all of the suspects are under 17 years old, and during the interrogation they admitted that they only wanted to show off and were seeking attention.

    Sudyatmaja explained that they usually start street racing after midnight and begin to annoy nearby residents with their loud exhaust. The officers invited their parents to come to the police station to pick up their kids while also reminding them to pay more attention to their kids’ behavior. The police also warned their parents to keep their families in compliance with the prevention protocols during the partial lockdown by reducing their mobility and avoiding creating a crowd.

A 27-year-old man named Bayung Oktaviani from Lumajang, East Java has been arrested after stealing a motorbike from a Russian national on Tuesday (13/7).
