The Denpasar City Government is in the process of trialing a new electric shuttle bus service in the resort area of Sanur.
The trial kick-started on 1st August 2025 and so far is getting positive reviews from international tourists.

The easily recognisable red, white, and black open-sided shuttle bus is making its way around the resort of Sanur, helping tourists navigate the area in an easier, more efficient, and environmentally friendly way.
Reporters went down to Sanur to see the shuttle bus in action and chat to tourists who had been using the service. One holidaymaker, Sue Mather, told reporters that she and her husband had been using the service regularly during their vacation to Sanur.
The couple have been staying around Sanur’s famous Mertasari Beach and had already hopped on the bus five times when they chatted to reporters.
Australian-based Mather told reporters, “We often walk around the Sanur area, and when we see this shuttle passing by, we think about getting on it. This is something new in Sanur and very good.”
She added, “I think with the free rate it’s amazing. The only thing I think might make tourists worried is that not everyone has a tap card for electronic payment. But, if, like us, you have tap cards, this is not a problem.”
Mather’s husband, Bruce, also noted his hopes that it will be easier after the trial period to make the payment for the shuttle bus service since many tourists don’t have contactless cards that they use abroad. He told reporters, “So that later tourists will not have difficulty if they want to ride this electric bus…this bus can be one of the solutions to reduce traffic jams.”
It is hoped that after the trial, the shuttle bus service in Sanur will not only become a permanent feature but will also become a free service for both local residents and tourists.
The Denpasar City Government has suggested that it will be investing in six free electric shuttle buses. These electric shuttle buses will serve the Sanur tourist area, especially on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, which is one of the busiest streets in the resort of Sanur.
Speaking to reporters, the Mayor of Denpasar, I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, confirmed that he has asked the Transportation Service (Dishub) to conduct a traffic study, which also includes an assessment of parking availability and feedback from the local community and businesses.
He told reporters that free electric buses are set to be provided along with the creation of more parking availability in the Sanur area.

Mayor Negara shared, “Indeed, we want to prepare a parking pocket by preparing a shuttle bus that can accommodate 10 and a maximum of 14 people, as many as six buses.” Once launched in full, the program is set to see buses operate every 10 minutes throughout the Sanur area, and there are hopes that set bus stops will be installed too.
During the trial period, the route is operating from Mertasari Beach, stopping off on Pangembak Street, Mertasari Street, Jalan Danau Poso, Jalan Danau Tamblingan, and Jalan Danau Toba. The final stop will be within the new Sanur Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism, near the SMP Wisata.

The shuttle bus is not only a hit with international tourists but also with domestic tourists and local visitors to Sanur’s beaches.
Speaking to reporters during the first week of the trial, Putu Ardiyasa Raditya Putra shared, “The shuttle is open, so it’s more fun. Only if it rains heavily, or there is wind, maybe there will be a little water.”
With the dry season in full swing in Bali, tourists don’t need to worry about rain for now.

Sanur is Bali’s original beach resort destination and has recently celebrated the launch of its new chapter as the Sanur Special Economic Zone for Medical Tourism.
The area is now home to the cutting-edge Bali International Hospital and is set to offer interesting medical tourism services to both privately paying Indonesian residents and international medical tourists.
