The airline review site AirlineRatings has just announced its list of the world’s safest airlines for 2025.
The full list of the 25 most highly ranking airlines has been drawn up after careful assessment of 385 international airlines and has been broken down into low-cost airlines and full-service airlines.
The results make for both interesting and comforting reading for Bali-bound tourists. The top three safest full-service airlines are actually comprised of five airlines in 2025, with there being a three-way tie and third position.
The top-ranking full-service airline in terms of safety in 2025 is Air New Zealand, followed by Qantas in second, and the joint third place was secured by Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, and Emirates, all five of which fly in and out of Bali on a weekly basis.
The CEO of Airline Ratings, Sharon Petersen, shared her insights on the rankings in a press statement. She revealed “It was extremely close again between Air New Zealand and Qantas for first place with only 1.50 points separating the two airlines. Whilst both airlines uphold the highest safety standards and pilot training, Air New Zealand continues to have a younger fleet than Qantas, which separates the two.”
Air New Zealand operates a direct service between Auckland and Denpasar three times weekly. The outbound Auckland – Denpasar route operates every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, taking off from Auckland International at 7.20 pm local time and landing in Bali at 10.55pm local time.
The return service operates every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday, departing Bali at 0.25am local time and landing at 1.05pm Auckland time.
She added, “The three-way tie for third place was because we simply could not separate these airlines. From fleet age to pilot skill, safety practices, fleet size, and number of incidents, their scores were identical.”
The top ten full-service airlines list was completed by Virgin Australia and Etihad Airlines in fourth and fifth place, respectively, both of which also operate services from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International.
ANA came in sixth place, followed by EVA Air and then Korea Air in eighth. Alaska Air, who very much don’t fly to Bali, came in ninth, and Turkish Airlines completed the top ten.
AirlineRatings conducts a series of in-depth analyses of airline performances over the course of a year. Consultations are held with check pilots and aviation experts as well as assessments of serious incidents over the past two years, fleet age, fleet size, rate of incidents, fatalities, profitability, IOSA certification, ICAO country audit pass, and pilot skill and training.
In terms of the top 25 safest low-cost airlines for 2025, the rankings are also looking good for Bali-bound budget-friendly services too. Jetstar Group came in second place, narrowly missing out on the top spot to Hong Kong Express.
AirAsia came in sixth place, with VietJet coming in eighth. IndiGo, which operates daily flight services from India to Bali, came in 19th place on the low-cost rankings.
AirAsia has one of the largest set of flight operations at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport and its offering is about to grow again.
On 22nd March 2025 the low cost airline will launch a new service operating between Darwin and Bali. The flight will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
VietJet is an emerging airline in Southeast Asia, expanding its operations more broadly in Indonesia. The airline now connects both Bali and Jakarta with Ho Chi Minh City as well as over 160 other international routes.
The new Hanoi-Jakarta route has been received as a positive step forward in strengthening ties between Indonesia and Vietnam for business travel and there are hopes that this will further bolster the tourism connection between these two fantastic travel destinations.
