One Flight Service Has Brought 100k Tourists To Bali In Just 100 Days

Bali is one of the most highly sought-after travel destinations in the world. With demand for flights to the island increasing, airlines and managers from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport are working to introduce more flights to the schedule.

But one particular flight service has already brought 100,000 excited tourists to Bali in the space of just 100 days. 

I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar has been welcoming the world’s largest commercial aircraft to the tarmac every day for 100 days.

The arrival of the daily Emirates Dubai-Bali A380 flight was a big deal for travel lovers and aviation enthusiasts as the plane can carry 615 passengers per flight.

As both Emirates and Bali Airport celebrate 100 days of the Airbus A380 service to and from Dubai, it is clear that demand for the flight isn’t going to slow down.

While tourists from Australia are the most frequent international arrivals in Bali, the Dubai-Bali service with Emirates provides easy transit for travelers across the United Arab Emirates and around the world.

Dubai International Airpot is a major transit hub that serves as the layover of choice for hundreds of thousands of tourists from North America and Europe traveling to Asia and beyond. 

The General Manager of Bali Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, told reporters “Since its first operation until now the Airbus A380 aircraft operated by Emirates on the Dubai-Bali-Dubai route has served 118,783 passengers.”

What is most incredible about the service is that since the inaugural flight 100 days ago, the twice-daily service has been operating at 98% capacity, meaning almost all flights both to and from Bali have been full. The aircraft has carried an average of 602 passengers per flight over the last 100 days. 

The arrival of the Airbus A380 on the schedule at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International was a big deal for the airport.

The management team had to make a series of improvements to the operational system in place at the airport in order to accommodate the giant aircraft.

Heryudhitiawan told reporters that health and safety remain the top priority for the airport management team.

He said, “We have made several adjustments, such as providing a special parking area for the A380 aircraft, checking the runway regularity, and ensuring that all facilities in the terminal operate optimally.”

The Emirates EK368 Dubai-Bali-Dubai service on the Airbus A380 operates twice daily. The flight departs Dubai at 3.25 am, landing in Bali at 4.35pm.

The return flight takes off from Denpasar at 7.40pm daily, landing in Dubai at 12.45 am the following morning. 

Emirates also runs another daily flight service from Dubai-Bali-Dubai aboard a Boeing 777, The service departs Dubai at 9.10 am, arriving in Bali at 10.20pm.

The return journey departs Bali at 12:05 a.m. and arrives in Dubai at 5 a.m. daily.  

Bali Airport is on track to be as busy in 2023 as before the pandemic. The airport supported over 2 million passenger movements last month alone.

When this was added to the accumulative total for the year, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has now supported over 13 million passenger movements to date. 

As the island enters a short lull period before the Christmas and New Year holidays, tourism leaders are already discussing how more flights to the island can be added to the airport schedule.

Speaking last week the Indonesian Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies shared that he is working with airlines and partner nations across ASEAN to develop greater connectivity for tourists across the county and around South East Asia. 

Minster Uno said “There is also interest from the United Arab Emirates in increasing the number of flights to Indonesia, not only through the existing airline Emirates, but also the airline Air Arabia.”

“Korea [has] also expressed its desire to increase the number of flights to Indonesia.” So…watch this space!
