Bali is becoming better connected by the day.
Low-cost airline Lion Air has just announced a series of new domestic flights within Indonesia that will help connect tourists with Bali and must-visit adventure and culture destinations nationwide.

Lion Air’s new services will connect Palangkaraya with Bali, Lombok, and Makassar. Palangkaraya is the capital city of Central Kalimantan and is one of the most important cities in Borneo.
The Indonesian Tourism Board, Wonderful Indonesia, refers to Palangkaraya as a ‘sacred oasis’. While the city has a wealth of cultural wonders to explore, it is the natural landscapes surrounding it that are of most interest to tourists.
Palangkaraya is the gateway to Sebangau National Park, the forest of which is home to the largest population of orangutans. The jungle is also home to other incredible wildlife, including the Borneo Pygmy Elephant, elusive clouded leopards, intriguing proboscis monkeys, gilders, tarsiers, and over 110 different species of bird.
Many tour operators offer overnight treks and hiking adventures into Sebangau National Park to see orangutans on foot. Tourists are always encouraged to book jungle treks with providers who practice sustainable tourism and, in the case of Sebangau National Park, support the local Indigenous Dayak people, who live in traditional villages in the area.
The new Lion Air Palangkaraya – Bali domestic flight service will operate four times weekly, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, launching in late March.
The Bali – Palangkaraya service will operate with flight number JT-860 and depart I Gusti Ngurah Rai at 13.05 pm local time, arriving in Palangkaraya at 13.30 pm local time.
The inbound service will depart Palangkaraya at 9.45 am local time, touching down in Denpasar at 12.10 pm. The Palangkaraya – Bali service will operate using flight number JT-861.
While Palangkaraya feels worlds away from Bali, Lion Air’s other new Bali flight service offers connections a little closer to the shores of the Island of the Gods.
These new connections offer tourists the chance to add three unique Indonesian destinations to their itinerary with ease. Tourists can now, more easily than ever, arrive in Bali, explore all that the island has to offer, then travel onwards to Borneo to lose themselves in the wonders of the jungle, and finish off a dreamy Indonesian odyssey with a few days relaxing on a beach in Lombok before taking a fast boat back to Bali for the homebound journey.
Domestic flights between Bali and Lombok are available daily. However, most tourists choose to travel between Bali and Lombok via the fast boat or ferry services. Departures leave multiple times daily from Sanur and Padangbai.

In 2025, whether traveling as a returning holidaymaker to Bali, as a traveler embarking on the ultimate Indonesian adventure, or anywhere in between, visitors are encouraged to explore as far and wide as possible.
This week the General Manager of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab reaffirmed his commitment to help ensure that Bali is as well connected for both international and domestic travel as possible.

He told reporters We continue to coordinate with stakeholders and airlines to see routes that have the potential to operate at Ngurah Rai Airport in the future.”
Adding “We hope that with the increasing trend of passengers after the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of passengers in 2025 will reach full recovery or even exceed the achievements in 2019.”

On 22nd March, Lion Air will launch a new flight service to Lombok’s Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport.
This service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The Palangkaraya – Lombok journey will depart Kalimantan at 9.45 am local time, arriving in Lomok at 12.15 pm local time.
The outbound journey will depart Lombok at 1 pm local time, arriving in Palangkaraya at 1.30 pm local time.

Lombok Airport is a nightmare. Getting to/from there to the norwest is expensive and long taxi rides. We flew regularly to/from Selaparang(Mattaram)for short stayovers until 2011. We used the new airport until 2014 then reverted back to the bike on the Ferry from Padangbai to Lembar. Way way cheaper and not much longer travel time with the new highway bypassing Mattaram city, plus you get a couple of hours sleep on the 5hr ferry ride.
