A 24-year-old man named Gunggus Togar Manatar has been arrested for possessing and consuming gorilla tobacco.
The Prosecutor of Badung State Attorney, Triarta Kurniawan, confirmed that the suspect was arrested for violating the Indonesian Narcotics Constitution by possessing 4.61 grams of gorilla tobacco.
“We demanded that the defendant be charged with 5 years imprisonment for possessing that illegal substance,” Triarta said on Tuesday (12/4).
Triarta also demanded a USD $84,000 (IDR 1,2 billion) fine.
“We also asked the Judges to punish him with USD $84,000 fines or a 6-month additional imprisonment for not complying with the government’s program to eradicate the drug trafficking in Bali,” Triarta added.
The suspect had ordered a package of gorilla tobacco through an online store on Instagram to increase his stamina and get relaxation from it. After transferring the money to the dealer, the suspect was asked to pick up the package in Jalan Teuku Umar Barat in Denpasar.
The suspect was arrested by the police officers when he arrived at his place on Jalan Mundu Taki 3 Dalung, North Kuta after receiving the package.
