The Head of Bali Educational Youth and Sports, Ketut Ngurah Boy Jayawibawa, confirmed that the headmaster of Karangasem Public High School 3, I Komang Sudiana, was dismissed from his job for physically punishing his students.

He made a group of students do push-ups, then he stepped on the shoulder of a student with the initials KN. “Sudiana was dismissed from his job as a headmaster after the investigation. He was moved to another school as a regular teacher,” Jayawibawa said on Wednesday (13/4).

A video of Sudiana stepping on the student’s shoulder while punishing him with push-ups went viral on social media. It received a backlash from the people as they criticized the way he sanctioned his students.

“I have warned them to cut their hair as they had violated our rule for growing them too long. When I punished them with push-ups, I set my foot on one student’s shoulder as he didn’t do it properly,” Sudiana said.

Sudiana didn’t realize that a student had recorded the incident with a cellphone and uploaded it on Tuesday (12/4), causing an uproar on social media.

Meanwhile, a relative of KN, Putu Suarjana, admitted that he doesn’t support this unethical behavior while educating the younger generation. “I fully support this type of discipline, but Sudiana should’ve used his hand instead of his foot while disciplining his students,” Suarjana said.

Young people willingly look up to adult authority figures to set good examples to follow. These same young people loose confidence and no longer trust the same adults after being humiliated. A teacher should be wiser than the student in all situations.

Maybe the government should give a course on proper treatment ,and lawful treatment of students. I hope they already have. To make do push ups. Physical punishments i dont totally agree with. When i was in school and did wrong i had to stay after school called "detention" and write on the chalk board 500 x my mistake. Maybe 200 would be better. When i was 4 grade before the laws the principle head master in his office would say " ok bend over grab your ankles turn your head to the right. And you got swatted on the butt. With wooden paddle Depending on what you did wrong . Would determine how many swats and how hard you were swatted. Now days there are laws. To protect students and teachers against any type of physical abuse. In america some big cities have bad gang members that have attacked teachers and staff. . Eduacation for all is the best way.
