Maulana Aldi from Banyuwangi, East Java has been arrested for trafficking underage women in Bali.
Police began their investigation after receiving a report from parents of the victims on Wednesday (2/12). The victims were identified as two 16-year-old women (initials NKT and NMF).
During an interview on Saturday (5/12) The Head of Denpasar Criminal Investigation Bureau, Kompol Dewa Putu Gede Anom Danujaya, said that the suspect was arrested at his residence on Pemogan Denpasar on Thursday (3/12).
“The suspect admits that he sold the two girls for money,” Danujaya confirmed. The incident started when Aldi encountered the victims on social media, after which he invited them to travel to Bedugul North Bali.
He brought them to a hotel on Jalan Tukad Badung Denpasar to serve a group of men that had been expecting their arrival.
The perpetrator is facing 15 years imprisonment and a fine of USD 42,400 (IDR 600 million) for violating the Constitution about Child Protection.
“The case is still under investigation to ensure that there are no other victims out there. The suspect has admitted to his involvement in this particular crime since October of this year” Danujaya concluded.
