A 25-year-old man named Fendik Saputro has been arrested for robbing and assaulting a local street vendor in Jembrana, Bali.
The Head of the Jembrana Criminal Investigation Bureau, AKP M Reza Pranata, confirmed that the suspect was arrested from Banyuwangi, East Java after he assaulted and robbed a 57-year-old woman named Ni Nyoman Widastri. The victim lost her cash and cellphone and suffered severe head injuries due to the incident.
The suspect works as a street clown around Jalan Ahmad Yani in Jembrana. He pretended to buy fruits from the victim on Monday evening (3/1).
“After performing as a street clown in the area, the suspect came to the victim’s stall to buy oranges for USD 1 (IDR 15,000). When the victim turned around, the suspect assaulted her from behind, causing the victim to lose her consciousness,” AKP Pranata said on Friday (7/1).
Once the victim was unconscious, Saputro took her wallet and cellphone from the table and then fled from the scene. The nearby villagers who spotted the victim lying on the ground immediately rushed her to Negara Public Hospital and filed a report to the police.
Fortunately, the police managed to spot the suspect’s location within 24 hours. They arrested him from his house in Banyuwangi, East Java on Tuesday morning (4/1).
“The suspect admitted that he committed the crime by himself. He attempted to flee the scene by taking a truck ride,” AKP Pranata concluded. The suspect has been detained along with evidence and will potentially face nine years of imprisonment.
