A 30-year-old man named I Wayan Mule (a.k.a Karel) has been arrested after stealing from an expat in Kuta.
The Head of the Kuta Criminal Investigation Bureau, AKP Made Putra Yudistira confirmed that the suspect was arrested after stealing a cellphone from a Ukrainian national named Valeriia Odnovol from the street in Denpasar on Saturday afternoon (28/8). “The man who was originally from Kubu, Karangasem was finally arrested for stealing an Iphone 12 Pro that belongs to an expat woman in the Kuta area.” AKP Yudistira said during a press conference on Thursday (9/9).
Prior to the arrest, the victim rode her motorbike on Jalan Sunset Road, Kuta by herself while putting her cellphone on a holder in order to look at the map on Saturday (14/8) around 2:00pm. Suddenly, the suspect who was riding a Yamaha Nmax attempted to approach Valeriia’s motorbike and then snatched her cellphone. “The suspect managed to steal the cell phone that is worth around USD 1,000 (IDR 15 million) from the motorbike and then fled the scene.” AKP Yudistira added.
After the incident, the victim filed a report to the Kuta police department and the investigation to find the suspect began. The officers went to the suspect’s house in Karangasem but they were unable to find him. “We finally managed to arrest the suspect from Jalan Merak, Pemogan Denpasar on August 28th 2021 around 2:00pm along with his motorbike and another stolen cell phone.” AKP Yudistira concluded. During the interrogation, he admitted that he had sold Valeriia’s cell phone for USD 338 (IDR 4,2 million) and he is now being detained at Kuta police department as the investigation is still underway.

Caning offenders is the answer. Criminals fear the cane. Near zero recidivism in Singapore.

@J West, caning is used in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, a legacy of British colonial rule in the 19th century. The only caning in Indonesia is within the autonomous region of Banda Aceh. It is the only province where sharia law is in force. Sighs.
