Bali’s Uluwatu Temple has been named the top-quality tourist destination in the country. As part of the Indonesia 2024 Proud Tourism Awards tourism awards, Uluwatu Temple was praised for being the best overall tourism attraction nationwide.
This huge accolade was received with pride by the Manager of the Uluwatu Temple Outer Area Tourism Attraction, I Wayan Wijana.
He told reporters that the award is an achievement reached as a result of the hard work and cooperation of all management staff. As a form of appreciation, the Uluwatu Temple tourism attraction team held a private party for all the staff to celebrate the win and welcome the new year.
Speaking at the celebration held at Warung Cenana in Uluwatu, Wijana said, “This activity is not just a celebration, but also a momentum to strengthen our togetherness and commitment to maintaining the sustainability of tourism.”
The Head of the Tourism Destination Division of the Bali Tourism Office (Dispar), Ida Bagus Adi Laksana, also spoke to reporters about the win. He explained that Uluwatu Temple is being managed to the highest standards, in alignment with the regional regulations for top-quality tourism attractions.
Laksana explained, “This award proves that Uluwatu DTW has met the high standards stated in Bali Regional Regulation (Perda) Number 5 of 2020 concerning the Standards for Organizing Balinese Cultural Tourism.”
He revealed that out of 505 formally registered attractions, only 101 meet all of the regional regulations for quality. Uluwatu Temple also won a second, less glamorous but no less important award. The attraction won Best Bathroom Facilities.
Laksana explained, “Toilets are facilities that have a big impact on the comfort of tourists. With this award, DTW Uluwatu proves that attention to small things can create a deep impression while improving the image of Bali tourism.”
In 2024, Uluwatu Temple will remain one of the most important and enjoyable tourist attractions in the province. What makes Uluwatu Temple so special is that there are areas where tourists can visit and areas that are protected from public view and reserved only for worshipers.
This helps preserve the sanctity of the temple, and this energy can be felt by even those who are only permitted to visit the Uluwatu Temple Outer Area.
Its full, traditional name is Pura Luhur Uluwatu, and it is Bali’s most famous sea temple. It is located in a seemingly precarious position high on the cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula. The temple is one of the six holiest temples in Bali, together known as the Sad Kahyangan Jagat.
The other five temples that complete this deeply revered sextet are Pura Besakih, also known as the Mother Temple, Pura Lempuyang Luhur, also known to tourists as the Gates of Heaven Temple, Pura Goa Lawah, Pura Luhur Batukaru, and Pura Pusering Jagat.
Aside from its unique location, Uluwatu Temple draws tourists from all around the world to watch the fiery kecak performances.
The cultural dance portrays the epic story of the Ramayana, a triumph of good over evil. Featuring the Monkey God Hanuman and the Gardua, the tale focuses on the love story between Prince Rama and Sia, who he must reduce from the demon King Ravana.
Not only is this performance utterly spellbinding, but the amphitheater in which the show is performed overlooks the calm Indian Ocean at sunset and is surrounded by the magical cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula.
As tourists start to seek more off-the-beaten path destinations in 2024, it is important to remember that culturally significant landmarks like Uluwatu Temple should not be skipped.
With a deep commitment to high-quality service for tourists, visitors can rest assured that every trip to Uluwatu Temple will be easy, enjoyable, and comfortable.
