Travel data shows that even in 2024, the Island of the Gods is still seducing honeymoon couples as frequently as ever, and there is one area in particular that has all the newlyweds feeling dreamy. 

Gianyar Regency, best known to tourists as being home to the arts and culture capital of Ubud, is also Bali’s number one honeymoon destination.

In 2024, Bali was named by TripAdvisor as the number one honeymoon destination in the world. Bali beat iconic honeymoon definitions like the Maldives, Mauritius, and Zanzibar to the top place.

The TripAdvisor Traveler’s Choice Awards saw Bali feature heavily across the board. Nusa Penida’s Kelingking Beach was placed in the world’s top 25 beaches, and Padma Resort Ubud and Adiwana Suweta Hotel proudly featured in the world’s top 25 hotels, too.

The Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, said that the majority of international honeymoon couples who visit Bali choose to stay in Ubud and the surrounding retreats.

He noted, “The majority are in Ubud, apart from some in Candidasa, including Tulamben, and some in West Bali.”

What is evident is that honeymoon couples are seeking destinations that can offer incredible views, tranquility, and exclusivity.

The resorts that surround Ubud, the far west of the island, and the far east offer this in abundance.

Pemayun says that one particular cultural moment is still bringing in the romantically inclined tourists to the island. He said, “especially with Julia Robert’s film Eat Pray Love. If you are a couple and want to strengthen your partner’s love, come to Bali.”

In fact, Robert’s return to Bali in the 2022 release of Ticket to Paradise also told the story of not one but two couples finding love on the Island of the Gods.

Though, to be totally transparent, much of the film was actually shot in Australia during the pandemic, despite being set in Nusa Penida.
