A 39-year-old French national named Nicolas Alexandre Gaston will potentially face 12 years of imprisonment for consuming narcotics in Bali.
The Prosecutor named Sutarta confirmed that the defendant was detained at the Denpasar Court House during the trial on Sunday (26/12). He will potentially face 12 years of imprisonment for consuming marijuana during his stay in Bali.
During the interrogation, Nicolas admitted that he started consuming weed to manage his depression since he had a divorce in 2020.
“The defendant could face 12 years of imprisonment if he’s proven to be involved in drug trafficking in Bali. But, if he’s lucky, he might be sentenced with just 4 years of imprisonment. That is, if he’s only considered as a consumer,” Sutarta said.
The defendant was arrested from his villa in Jalan Tegal Cupek, Kerobokan North Kuta on September 26, 2021. The police also seized a 3,390-gram package of marijuana that he stored inside a bag in the kitchen.
“The defendant admitted that he often combined marijuana with tobacco,” Sutarta added. Meanwhile, the defendant’s attorney, Aji Silaban, confirmed that he and his client have decided to accept the Prosecutor’s demands.
“After discussion, Nicolas decided to accept the Prosecutor’s demands without any exceptions,” Silaban concluded.

@Osmo, isn’t 3 Kilos of dry broccoli really so much. Here in Bali are perfect climate conditions for very good weed, should start a legal export also.

@J West, but many ganja stone peoples by full moon party’s in Thailand in last decades. - 3 Kilos seems much on first few, but depends on his length of stay, perhaps a party guy was needing plenty of weed on his search for a new wife. - However he didn’t harm anybody except perhaps himself. - Why not start to sell weed in pharmacy’s, the quality would be guaranteed and they wouldn’t be place for criminal activity’s. - In India nobody is arrested if he consume manali hash for example. Hindu religion accept it.

@Wayan Bo, The United States, Canada and Eu all have a very clear mention on the website advisories that any drug violation relating to drug importation, possession or use while under Indonesian authority has severe legal consequence. I think everyone knows this, that drugs are banned. The policy by Indonesia has been well publicized over at least four decades. The mere possession of drugs used to be met with a death sentence by firing squad. The Thai government was machine gunning dopers into the 1980’s.
At no time has the Indonesian policy changed due to the psychological aftermath of divorce. The amount of weed this alleged criminal possessed might indicate that the divorce stress song is a cry for sympathy, while he might actually been in possession of 3000 grams for other purposes? Who keeps and smokes 3000 grams as personal use? It must have been one angry divorce. No sympathy.
