Ubud’s Writers and Readers Festival is just days away, and anticipation in Bali’s arts and cultural capital is building.
Ubud’s Writers and Readers Festival is one of the most significant international cultural events of the year in Bali, and tickets are still available.

Ubud’s Writers and Readers Festival will be held at venues across Ubud from 29th October to 2nd November 2025. Festival organizers have promised “an immense lineup of inspiring memoirists, acute political analysts, shimmering poets, and emerging writers will take to the stage at Taman Baca and venues across Ubud.”
“Under the guiding theme Aham Brahmasmi – I am the Universe, a cosmic combination of literary stars will explore the deep connection between the self and the universe through in-conversations and panel discussions, literary lunches, musical and spoken word galas, book launches, workshops, and much more.”
With this year’s festival primed to be bigger and better than ever, anyone and everyone who is set to be on the island of Bali between 29th October and 2nd November would be wise to check out what this exceptional event has to offer.
One of the most inclusive aspects of Ubud’s Writers and Readers Festival is that attendees can so easily pick and choose the events that they wish to attend and purchase tickets accordingly.
For many, a whole festival pass is the best way to make the most of the annual literary festival, while for others, buying tickets to just one or two of the special program events is the best way to get their cultural fix.
Festival Founder and Director Janet DeNeefe shares, “From humble beginnings, the Festival has grown into Southeast Asia’s most meaningful literary event, bringing people together from near and far. So, if you wish to meet fellow literary-minded folk, love a good story or performance, or are simply eager to learn more about Indonesia, then come to Ubud to experience the magic for which we are famous. For me, our Festival has been life-changing, and it can be for you.”
For international attendees, a 4-day Festival Pass allows unlimited access to the festival’s main program, which equates to over 100 sessions to enjoy. Tickets for the 4-day pass are IDR 6,350,000. Concession prices are available for Indonesian nationals, KITAS/KITAP holders, and ASEAN passport holders, as well as student rates.
A one-day festival pass for international attendees is priced at IDR 1,900,000 and provides access to the full program lineup on the event day chosen.
Ubud’s Writers and Readers Festival hosts a series of special festival events that require additional ticket access and are not to be overlooked.
The special festival events are not only literary-focused, but culturally inspired too. These events offer attendees a chance to connect with Balinese culture and the natural landscape.
Special event highlights include ‘A Royal Night at Puri Kantor Legacy’, festival organisers have shared that attendees can expect “a royal evening where history, culture, and flavour come alive at Puri Kantor Legacy, the heritage palace of Tjokorda Gde Rake Soekawati, the last King of Ubud who introduced Bali to the world in Paris, 1931. Once Upon a Time – A Flashback to the Glorious Past features the Bali Vintage Fashion Show, inspired by the King’s 1926 book on Balinese attire, soulful music by Alina Gamerova, and the Historical Dance of 1931. A fusion of Balinese, Colonial, and Indian influences promises an evening to remember.”
Nature-inspired special events, including ‘Bird Watching with Darryl Jones’. Attendees are invited to join Jones in “an early morning bird-walking tour across the Tjampuhan Ridge, Ubud’s most breathtaking iconic walk. The trail starts at the confluence of the Wos Rivers next to Ubud’s ancient temple, Pura Gunung Lebah.”
“Witness more than thirty species of birds, from the majestic Java Kingfisher and Scarlet-headed Flowerpecker to the Java Sparrow and Black-winged Starling, as well as other magnificent wildlife. The tour concludes in the village of Bangkiang Sidem, where you will enjoy a delightful breakfast at Tamian Cafe along with more enriching conversation.”
The festival program is jam-packed with events, workshops, and gatherings. Be sure to check out the free events program schedule and the after-dark programming, too.
