Electric Shuttle Buses For Tourists In Bali’s Sanur To Become Permanent Service

Share The Article

Over the last month, a new electric shuttle bus service has been on trial in Bali’s beach resort of Sanur.

Following positive feedback from both tourists and community members, the shuttle service will become a permanent feature in Sanur, making it easier than ever for tourists to navigate the area.

The Denpasar City Government has announced plans to invest in 12 electric shuttle buses to be in operation before the end of 2025.

Currently, six shuttle buses are operating the trial route, with more set to be added, making the service expected to have a significant impact on tourists and holidaymakers visiting the area.

Speaking to reporters, the Head of the Denpasar Transportation Office, Ketut Sriawan, shared, “For now, six electric shuttle units will operate, and the Mayor of Denpasar has assigned us to add six more units. So, in 2025, there are 12 units serving the parking pockets of Mertasari and Segara Ayu.”

The shuttle bus service currently operates from 6 am to 10 pm, with the last service setting off on the route at 9 pm. Each bus can carry 10-12 passengers. The route starts at Sanur Tourism Junior High School (SMP), stopping at Sanur Sindu Market, Icon Mall, the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) at Lake Poso, and onward to Mertasari Beach Parking.

The full and permanent shuttle bus service will be officially launched as part of Bali Climate Week on 30th August.

Sriwan told reporters, “The target for electric bus passengers is tourists, workers in the area, and other consumers because they are accompanied by parking exemptions on the road. So, the public and all are obliged to park in the parking pockets that have been determined.”

He added, “In fact, tourists suggest that the presence of electric buses is followed by parking exemption and pedestrian increases as soon as possible, and this has been done by the Denpasar City Government, which is currently improving the quality of pedestrians.”

He noted that the ticket rates are set to be adjusted to help keep the service running, but also ensure that it is a service that can be afforded by local people as well as tourists.

Sriwan shared, “We will evaluate together for the improvement of service quality and its usefulness for public transportation services as a support for the tourism sector.”

Sriawan shared his hopes that the development of the electric bus service can help increase safety in Sanur by improving smooth traffic flow in the tourism area and supporting the Sanur area in achieving its targets, now that it has been designated as a low-emission area.

“In this case, Dishub continues to improve the quality of services with the Intaran Traditional Village and hopes that all entrepreneurs and people in this area will be active in creating a low-emission zone.”

“So, it can maintain the air quality in the Sanur tourism area.” Dishub is the Bali Transportation Agency.

Throughout the trial period, which started on 1st August 2025, the service has been getting nothing but positive reviews from passengers.

An Australian tourist who had visited Bali a number of times shared her delight at the new service, which she and her husband used multiple times on their recent vacation in Sanur.

Sue Mather told reporters, “We often walk around the Sanur area, and when we see this shuttle passing by, we think about getting on it. This is something new in Sanur and very good.”

She added, “I think with the free rate it’s amazing. The only thing I think might make tourists worried is that not everyone has a tap card for electronic payment. But, if, like us, you have tap cards, this is not a problem.”
