Residents of Jalan Pudak Sari, Kuta lost their homes in a fire incident that occurred on Tuesday (12/4).
Many of the people who lost their homes were spotted sleeping in front of other people’s houses as they have nowhere else to go. The fire destroyed their homes, comprised of 67 rooms, and a warehouse.
“It was a disaster, we could only save a few pieces of clothing but the rest were gone,” said a resident named Suyono on Wednesday (13/4).
Some victims plan to go back to their hometowns, while others will rebuild their homes with limited resources. The majority of them have been working as scavengers and construction workers to provide for their families.
Luckily, some people and a social community called Aku For Bali Foundation who heard about the incident sent food aid, clothes, and sleeping mattresses to the affected residents.
Aku For Bali has been regularly providing support to the residents in that area since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020, as many of them struggled to survive.
“We have been sending help to the residents in here since the pandemic began over 2 years ago, but I still hope that they could receive more support, especially after this fire incident,” said one of the volunteers of Aku For Bali named Satya Wibawa.
