The Head of the Bank of Indonesia for Bali, Trisno Nugroho, confirmed that all ATM services across the island would be shut down during the Day of Silence celebration.

“We will turn off all ATM services from 12:00 am on March 2 to March 4 at 6:00 am,” Trisno said on Monday (28/2). However, he ensured that electronic transactions such as internet banking and mobile banking services would continue to operate normally.

Trisno also adjusted the operating hours of all bank offices during the event.

“All in-person bank services will be closed, as the bank offices will not be operating from March 2 to 4. Everything will be back to normal by Monday (7/3),” Trisno added.

Trisno reminds all residents to be careful in doing online transactions and avoid sharing their personal information with strangers.

“I urge people to keep their personal information such as OTP code, password, and username private to avoid potential loss while using the internet banking services,” Trisno concluded.

Always though this was a bit silly. Think they should change it to environmental day, imagine if every resident was forced to litter pick instead of sat at home in the dark. Each resident must collect at least one bag of rubbish, 4 million bags of rubbish collected is so much more useful than doing nothing. You have a naturally beautifully island but could be made ever better

@Paulo, to be precised the Hallmark Christmas holiday as in the Western world. To some Balinese probably the Santa Claus figure is rather silly to them. Who knows...

But you are right, educating the environmental issues plaguing the island could be an important subject. However the day of silence in their culture is a big deal. Let them enjoy it. Nothing wrong to do some soul searching.

@Paulo, this is a day for inner soul searching in their culture. I am sure they would find it silly to celebrate a Hallmark Christmas holiday each year and none sense gifts that still owed on their credit cards.

They do have an environmental day for that.

@LAHAYE J.C., from my local sources in Bali, the announcement of the shut down was aired several days before the day of silence.

@carioca, as with any country, it is important to be respectful of the culture and in this case the day of silence in Bali.

I don't know that I belong to the same human race as someone who thinks it makes sense to complain of another culture for it's day of observance whatever that may be.

YES indeed it is unique in the whole world. Indonesia for that matter may be the only country in the whole world that observes different religious holidays and the Chinese new year by making them as a public holiday respectively.

@LAHAYE J.C., If you do not like the culture of Bali for their day of silence then there is no reason to visit or even live on the island. Take your laundry list of grievances elsewhere.

@LAHAYE J.C.,

Yeah, very stupid indeed. This whole prison-like Nyepi-thing is unique in the whole world and I always hated and avoided it.
