Bali’s Secret Monkey Forest Increases Entry Fees For Tourists

One of Bali’s best-kept secrets, Monkey Forest, has announced that they will be increasing their entry fees. The news comes after a series of top cultural attractions in Bali’s busiest tourism region have also upped their prices.

Alas Kedaton is one of Bali’s lesser-known Monkey Forests that can be found in Kukuh Village in Tabanan Regency. The forest welcomes far fewer visitors than other wild monkey attractions in Bali, and is set within a stunning temple complex in the heart of the regency.

The management team at Alas Kedaton has confirmed that the new prices for international tourists will come into effect as of early 2026 and that they will spend time in the next three months on their new outreach program to communicate with tour guides, tourism associations, and other key stakeholders.

The Head of Kukuh Village, I Gusti Ngurah Arta Wijaya, told reporters that his team has decided to increase the entry fee for tourists to be in alignment with other Monkey Forest attractions around the island. At present, entry fees to Alas Kedaton are considered to be markedly lower than the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, even considering that the attraction is smaller and a little less established.

Wijaya told reporters, “Don’t compare the prices in Ubud, which already cost hundreds of thousands. For example, in Sangeh Monkey Forest, the price is already IDR 75,000. The increase is also driven by tour guides. If the price is too low, it will be difficult to find funding for monkey food.”

The planned ticket increase will see international adult tickets increase from IDR 30,000 to IDR 70,000, while children will be charged at IDR 60,000, up from IDR 20,000. The rates for domestic tourists are also set to increase, but by how much is yet to be confirmed.

Wijaya confirmed that this hike in entry fees is strategic and project funds have already been allocated to help cover increasing operational costs, animal feed, support local tour guides, and be invested into the Kukuh Village treasury.

This is the first time that the entry fee to Alas Kedaton has been increased in over a decade. The last fee increase came into effect in 2012, and much has changed at the attraction in the last thirteen years.

The management team has big plans to help improve facilities and establish Alas Kedaton as a modern, comfortable, and competitive tourism attraction, while continuing to prioritize the well-being of the resident monkeys and the conservation of both the forest and temple grounds.

There are plans to create selfie spots, open a coffee shop, and build a more formal entry area, including a large, locally crafted monkey sculpture, which will become the focal point for tourists on arrival.

In terms of visitor numbers, Alas Kedaton is perfect for tourists who want to experience a Monkey Forest in Bali without the crowds and in a more off-the-beaten-path destination.

On an average day, just 40-50 people visit the attraction, rising only to 100 per day during the height of the peak season.

Alas Kedaton makes for the perfect stop off on a day-long tour of Tabanan Regency.

Sitting just a 30-minute drive from Tanah Lot Temple, and a scenic 50-minute drive from the UNESCO World Heritage Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, early risers are highly rewarded on a three-stop tour of Tabanan Regency.

The early start would offer breathtaking sunrise views of the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, followed by a gentle stroll and a local breakfast.

Next stop is a visit to Alas Kedaton to enjoy observing the monkeys and some shade under the cover of the forest during the heat of the day. The final stop has to be the iconic Tanah Lot Temple for dreamy sunset views.
